Things to do and places to visit

Kaitaia is the northern-most town of New Zealand. It is central to all of the good tourist spots of the Far North and has buses leaving daily for Cape Reinga and most of the settlements on the way.

We can help with bookings and recommendations. Contact us for further information.

Aupouri Peninsula

Take a trip to Cape Reinga, drive down Ninety Mile Beach, visit Gum Diggers Park and Ancient Kauri Kingdom.

Far North Outback Adventures and Paradise 4x4 Exclusive Tours are small, locally owned and operated businesses specialising in tours for small groups of up to five people. They use 4WD Nissan Safari or Toyota Landcruiser vehicles and provide you with a quality lunch and top New Zealand wine.

Alternatively, Harrisons Cape Runner and Sand Safaris offer trips by bus.

Kaitaia and Ahipara

You can visit the Okahu Estate Vineyard and Winery and go sport fishing, quad bike riding over the sand dunes, surfing and golfing on a fine links course.

Doubtless Bay

You can visit Butler Point Whaling Museum and homestead, walk the Mangonui Heritage Trail, play golf and visit the winery at Carrington Resort or just relax on the magnificent beaches of the Karikari Peninsula.

Eating out

There is excellent dining at the Beachcomber Restaurant and Bushmans Hut Steakhouse in Kaitaia.
